Who We Are

City Arts + Prep Public Charter School is the District’s only college preparatory public charter school that integrates rigorous academic instruction with world-class performing arts programs to propel young people towards success in school and in life.

Building on a 13-year legacy as the William E. Doar, Jr. (WEDJ) Public Charter School for the Performing Arts, City Arts educates more than 450 students in PreK through eighth grade from across the city and combines unparalleled opportunities to learn dance, theatre, music and visual arts at no cost to families.

Executive Team

Lanette Dailey-Reese
Executive Director

Lanette  has served on the City Arts Board of Directors for the past two years in the roles of Academic Committee Chair and Board Secretary. She is well-versed in our school’s history, community, and plans for the future. Lanette has a long career in education, with a focus on urban schools, She has previously served as a strategic thought leader to over 75 school districts in their school turnaround efforts.

Lakeala T. Jones
Chief Academic Officer & Principal

Lakeala T. Jones has worked in education for fifteen years. She holds a Master of Administrative Leadership degree from Trinity University and a Master of Education degree from American University. Mrs. Jones also holds professional educator certifications in Administration (All Levels) and Elementary Education (1-6).

After working with the District of Columbia for ten years as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Jones joined New Leaders for New Schools. As a New Leader administrator, Mrs. Jones worked for five years with communities across the district to ensure all students received a high quality education. During this time, Mrs. Jones achieved Tier 1 status while working at Center City Public Charter School, Petworth Campus and increased student achievement in all schools.

Mrs. Jones believes that effective communication, consistency, support, and building positive relationships based on trust and respect must be the foundation of our work. She believes that together all students will continue to be successful through the unparalleled, world-class performing arts program offered at City Arts & Prep Public Charter School.
