Parent Referral Program

Dear City Arts Parents,
The highest compliment our parents can pay us is the referral of family or friends for a child at our school. The trust and confidence that you place in us each and every day means a great deal to our staff. In appreciation of that trust and confidence, we are proud to announce our Parent Referral Program with all of our current parents, specifically referring PreK3 and PreK4 families.
Each time a child is enrolled at City Arts + Prep Public Charter School, as a result of your recommendation to other parents, you will receive a thank you gift. This gift will be received after the new enrollee has attended City Arts through November 1, 2017.
Gifts:
• City Arts + Prep Swag Bag
• iPad Raffle Tickets
• 5 Uniform or Culture Shirts

All you have to do is complete the referral form indicating whom you’re referring. All forms will be located at the front desk.

As always, thank you for choosing City Arts + Prep Public Charter School as your school of choice. Have a great day!

In Service To Youth,
Lanette Dailey-Reese
Executive Director

Introducing Our New Chief Academic Officer & Principal

Dear City Arts & Prep Public Charter School Staff, Parents/Guardians, and Students:
It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as the new Chief Academic Officer/Principal of City Arts & Prep Public Charter School.  I feel honored and humbled to serve the students, staff, and families of City Arts & Prep community and continue the tradition of excellence and partnerships that have been established.  I will be working closely with Ms. Lanette Dailey-Reese, Executive Director, and Ms. Demetria Gartrell, former principal, to ensure a smooth transition.  It is my goal to work together with each of you to ensure that our relationships are strong and teaching and learning is of the highest quality at City Arts & Prep.
My initial entry work will focus on building relationships and learning about each member of our school community.  I want to begin that effort by sharing some of my background.  This is my fifteenth year in education.  I spent the first ten years teaching with the District of Columbia Public Schools.  During that time, I served as a classroom teacher, grade level chair, and local school restructuring team chair.  I have been an administrator for the past five years, serving as the assistant principal at Center City Public Charter School and principal of Democracy Prep Public Charter School.  It is my belief that we must put students at the heart of all we do.  I believe that City Arts & Prep has done so by establishing a fun, creative, and supportive place of learning. I am truly excited to be welcomed member of the team!

During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students of CAPP the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. I anticipate a most successful year as my team and I support the exceptional academic and arts education experience for your child here at City Arts & Prep Public Charter School.

In partnership,

Mrs. Lakeala Jones
Chief Academic Officer/Principal

Introducing Our New Executive Director

We are pleased to announce that Lanette Dailey-Reese has been selected as the next Executive Director of City Arts & Prep Public Charter School.  The board of directors of City Arts engaged the educational search firm Carney Sandoe & Associates to conduct a nation-wide search for our next school leader.

Many of you have met Lanette. She has served on the City Arts Board for the past two years in the roles of Academic Committee Chair and Board Secretary. She is well-versed in our school’s history, community, and plans for the future. Lanette will start her tour of duty with City Arts + Prep on May 15, 2017.

Lanette has a long career in education, with a focus on urban schools. She is leaving her position as a Senior Executive Director at the International Center for Leadership in Education where she has served for nearly five years to join City Arts. In that role she served as a strategic thought leader to over 75 school districts in their school turnaround efforts. Prior to that Lanette held positions with the School District of Philadelphia as an Assistant Director of School Reform, and with California University of Pennsylvania and Communities in Schools of Philadelphia.

Lanette has two master’s degrees; one from Drexel University and one from Temple University, and has her undergraduate degree from Notre Dame College of Ohio. Lanette and her family live just a few miles from City Arts.

We are also please to say that Andrew Kirkland, our Acting Executive Director, will be staying on this year to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Advisor to Lanette. Andrew has done an amazing job leading this school year helping us grow and advance our academic programs. Lanette and Andrew have worked together for the last two years and are eager to continue their partnership as we prepare for our 15 year Charter Renewal.

Thank you to all the parents, faculty, and staff who provided feedback on the search to Carney Sandoe & Associates and the Board.

Sincerely,

Joyce Warner

City Arts Board Chair
